About Mystic Waters Fly Fishing Blog

“I fly fish to live.” (Kenai River Guide) “I live to fly fish” (Obsession).  Welcome to Mystic Waters Alaska Fly Fishing Blog. This site is dedicated to feeding your fly fishing addiction and to showcasing Mystic Waters and Fly Fishing on the Kenai River and other special places. You will find more of interest here than just another hook for my guiding business.  Discover fly fishing  insights along with some hard core fishing flap and hopefully a little humor.  While fly fishing is always the primary mission, other topics might include calls to action regarding fishery issues, skiing, beer or even Bigfoot.  I spend over half the year in Montana, so fly fishing the nearby Missouri River is a frequent topic.  I love Rainbow Trout / Steelhead, Dolly Varden Char, King Salmon, Sockeye Salmon, Silver Salmon, Brown Trout, Tarpon, Bonefish, Permit and Carp.  Bass, Pike, Walleye and others will see my flies on occasion.

Thanks for stopping by,

Fred Telleen

About Mystic Waters Fly Fishing and The Kenai River

If you are searching for a guided fly fishing trip in Alaska and would like more information about the trips we offer on the Upper and Middle reaches of the Kenai River, please visit mysticfishing.com  I have been a Kenai River Guide since 1989 and a I have specialized in Fly Fishing trips for many years.

The Kenai River is 82 miles long from Kenai Lake to Cook Inlet.  We often focus our trips in the wildest section of the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge.  We also frequently fish the downstream boundary of the refuge below Skilak Lake and the Middle Kenai River Reach to Soldotna. Visit The Kenai River Fishing Report for more fishery details including in season fishing reports.

About Montana Fly Fishing On The Missouri River

Montana has become my official residence and the Missouri River is my home river outside of Alaska.  The Missouri River is large, scenic and full of trout.  Nymphing, streamers and matching the hatch dry fly fishing can be fantastic for rainbows and brown trout from 16″ to 24″.  A few giant browns lurk in MO and provide opportunity for those who want to hunt a trophy. My good friend Brian Neilsen operates Fin Fetchers Outfitters.  I am a licensed Montana Fly Fishing Guide and am available for trips booked through Fin Fetchers.

Fred, Thanks for fishing with me on Sunday….Glad to have you in my little RO boat and return the great hospitality you and Stacy supplied me and my friends in Alaska. Fishing was good, beer was better, stories were great. Fishing will only get better as days go by. Great to have another friend who can row a boat. Good rowers and buddies seem few and far between. Hopefully we can hit the water a couple more times before you head North and my wife and I have our daughter. If need be, we can focus more on getting the fish to eat dries on the next go round. Hope all is well. Great site!

At the risk of inundating your blog with Pebble/Bristol Bay content…just wanted you to be aware that I’ve been running an online fundraising auction since late April to benefit the Pebble campaign. Tons of great deals on fly fishing gear and trips. All the current listings may be accessed through my website and the auction is being hosted on Ebay.

If you provide me your email address, I’ll keep you informed.

    Thanks much for your coverage!
